Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a death doula?

A Death Doula is someone who leads with their heart to support the dying and their families in the preparation and experience of dying with autonomy and alignment. Death Doulas support the dying and their loves ones in so many facets, from the spiritual to the logistical, interfacing with other deathcare practitioners to ensure that the wishes of the dying are honored whenever possible.

  • Is Acacia hospice care?

Acacia is not hospice, or any other kind of medical care. However, Acacia can assist clients to find the right hospice care, and can then serve as an additional support to hospice.

Hospice provides an essential service to the dying, but hospice workers can only do so much while they care for so many. Death Doulas can offer a more personalized, and unique service to the dying and their families by liaising between hospice staff, the dying, and their loved ones, before, during, and after their death.

You also don’t need to be on hospice to receive Acacia’s services! Often, the best time to start a relationship with a Death Doula is before hospice is necessary.

  • What is an advanced directive?

An advanced directive is a written and signed document that details your wishes on medical treatment, comfort care, assets, and legacy left behind.

Advanced directives may seem boring and legalistic, but they can actually be just as unique and expressive as you are!

Advanced directives are an important tool for dying how you want to die, and for preventing headaches for your loved ones after you’ve transitioned.

  • Do I need an estate lawyer to work with Acacia?

This is situational. Acacia will do everything possible to take care of your needs, however, Acacia will refer you out to an estate lawyer when necessary.

  • I am not actively dying or supporting anyone who is. Can I still use Acacia's services?

Yes! Acacia can help prepare you and your loved ones for this inevitable event, whether you have a terminal diagnosis or not. After all, we all die!

These conversations and decisions can be scary no matter what life-stage we’re in. With Acacia, it doesn’t have to be scary; we can do it together.

  • What is the cost of working with Acacia?

One of my main goals is to make this service affordable for all.

We will work together to customize a plan that works for you and your family!
